Only those who make some significant contribution to the society are remembered by posterity. Those who can rise above their individual and family interests can contribute to the society and live in the memory of future generations for eternity. Yokpu Sherpa of Tapting VDC of Solukhumbu district was one of them. A farmer by profession, Yokpu did numerous exemplary works for the welfare of the society. This gentleman spent most of his life with the aim of improving the living standards of peasant folks of the inhospitable Himalayan region. He spent 78 years of his life in building roads, bridges, temples and monasteries in the Tapting area of Solukhumbu. As a farmer himself, his contribution in revolutionizing agriculture for the welfare of fellow peasants and make them independent is immense. Those who knew him recall his expertise in assisting those interested in raising cow, yak, goats and sheep as well as modernizing agriculture.
